Description of Course Goals and Curriculum

A survey of Beethoven's works in historical context. Questions of biography and influence will also be explored. This course meets twice a week for 90 minutes. There are no precepts. The assignments for this course include listening quizzes, and two essays.
Make sure to listen to the tunes required for listening quizzes regularly, and test yourself and others!

Learning From Classroom Instruction

Most of the learning for this course happens in class, which goes into detail about the theory behind Beethoven's works, as well as information about his life, and the social dynamics surrounding his time.

Learning For and From Assignments

The listening quizzes require you to be able to recall the first couple of bars of Beethoven's tunes. The papers allow you to go into depth with anything concerning Beethoven.
